What is Sleep Apnoea?

Sleep Apnoea, or Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA), happens when a person's throat is partly or completely blocked while they are asleep. Normally the muscles that control the upper airway relax during sleep. However, if they relax too much, then the upper airway becomes narrowed and people begin to snore. If the airway becomes to narrow, this may then result in breathing difficulties. In some cases the airway can become completely blocked and the person stops breathing, this can last for 10 secs or more each time.

"Did you know that nearly three million Australians have Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) yet  eighty percent are undiagnosed"

Recharged or Wrecked

When your body senses that you've stopped breathing, a control centre in your brain trigger you to wake up just enough to gasp and start breathing again. Then you fall back to sleep and the cycle begins again - these apnoeas can happen over 50 times every hour!

Recharge with Revive

In order to be treated for Sleep Apnoea, an initial diagnosis has to be made. At Revive Gatton Pharmacy our team can assist our Sleep Apnoea Testing Service.

First step is a face-to-face appointment where we'll review your sleeping via an Epworth Sleepiness Scale, this test will be conducted by one of our fully trained staff. Depending on your score if it is a result of 8 or higher, we will then recommend you having an overnight study, that can be conducted in the comfort of your home via an overnight loaned testing machine.

Based then on these results, we send them to the Sleep Physician Specialists, and once the results are back we arrange a follow up appointment to discuss the recommendations for your sleep therapy as well as fit and demonstrate in store of the mask and unit suitable for your needs!
